Q: Why build a site about Chinese fashion?
G.B: I've been very lucky in life to have been allowed to live my dreams, and I've reached the stage in life where I like to help others live thier dreams too. The fashion world is full of magic and excitement, but too many people have no idea what amazing resources there are. I just so happen to live in Beijing now and it's definately a city where dreams come to life every day.
Q: When did you first become interested in fashion?
G.B: Many years ago a dear friend bought me a subscription to GQ magazine in an attempt to upgrade my image. At first I looked at it like it was some sort of alien species, but over time came to appreciate the magic created by different fabrics, textures, designs, colors and so on. Then, a few years later I worked with a lady that ran a small fashion house and hosted her own fashion shows. I grew to love the excitement involved in every aspect of fashion creation, design and production. It was an amazing process. While I was living in South Korea a few years ago I found myself teaching English to students in the Costume Design department of a university. So, I had to research the fashion history and industry in Korea. I made website there:
http://goldstonepencil.tripod.com/koreanfashion/
Q: You're a photographer too?
GB: Yes, I've published photos in more than a dozen newspapers and magazines in the U.S., South and East Asia. These days it's just a hobby though. Mostly I write and take photos for martial arts magazines, and I teach English at a large private school in Beijing.
Q: Have you built other sites since coming to China?
GB: Yeah, a few others...
